Commission considering full revision of FCM legislation

The European Commission is undergoing a major legislative overhaul. Feedback to an inception impact assessment closed in January 2021 showed a divided opinion on whether amendments to the current regulatory framework were sufficient, or a new framework should be developed. The Commission seems to favour the latter, as otherwise the concern is that the legislation would not be as "future-proof".

An open public consultation on the topic is anticipated soon (Q1 2021), while a legislative proposal is expected by the end of 2022.
