PPWD update delay and final stakeholder workshop

The European Commission informed packaging stakeholders that the review of the Packaging and Packgaing Waste Directive will likely be delayed with respect to their plan of revealing a draft before the end of 2021. In a letter from the cabinet of VP Timmermans, the Commission hinted to a new, final, round of stakeholder workshops to take place in November.

The updated PPWD is likely to introduce mandatory thresholds for recycled content in plastics, ban non-compostable packaging for some applications and compostable packaging for others, among other measures.
