UPM Raflatac achieves ISO 14001, PEFC and FSC certifications for labelstock manufacturing facility in Poland
PM Raflatac has received ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems certification for its labelstock manufacturing facility in Wroc?aw, Poland. The certification represents a significant step toward achieving one of the company's major goals for its facilities worldwide: developing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) which operate in accordance with an internationally recognized standard.
In addition to the ISO 14001 certificate, the Wroclaw facility has also been granted PEFC and FSC chain of custody certificates for its manufacture of labelstock. Having a chain of custody for PEFC and FSC guarantees that the wood pulp used in a product is from sustainably managed certified forests.
"These certifications clearly prove our responsibility to the environment," says Marta Ma?asiewicz, Health, Safety & Environment Manager, UPM Raflatac Poland. "Our customers know that we are actively minimizing the environmental impacts of our company's operations, products and services. This shows in our choice of raw materials, and internally through reduced waste and high energy efficiency."
The ISO 14001 accreditation includes the manufacture and slitting of self-adhesive paper and film labelstock. The factory will be reassessed annually to ensure that it is achieving its targets and continuously improving its environmental performance. ISO 14001 certification requires that an organization identifies and controls the environmental aspects and impacts of its activities, products or services, continually improves its environmental performance, and implements a systematic approach to setting and measuring the achievement of its environmental objectives and targets. The certificate is awarded by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
