'"In my school days, I did author a story which I never shared with anyone as I was not sure if it would be appreciated. There was always an urge to write something that would be liked and provided information, which would be referred to by generations. In 1986 with no internet, I depended on books and encyclopedias to write “The story of ink”, documenting the historical development  of paper and ink used on it in various forms. Around the end of the 1990s or the start of new Millenium having spent many years in the label industry, I authored an article on labels and sent to Andy Thomas editor of Label and Labeling magazine UK. To my joy, Andy published it in the magazine, and I was euphoric! Unfortunately, I cannot trace that article now. It was the start of my journey as an author. I decided to pursue writing on labels.

Around the same time Naresh Khanna, editor of Packaging South Asia came to my stand at Printpack and invited me to write a column for each edition of Packaging South Asia. I did that for a couple of years. In 2006 Roger Pellow, the then Managing Director of Labelexpo, invited me to make presentations at the Label Summit held in Mumbai by Tarsus. I wrote the first part of History of label in India. The presentation was so nostalgic and was appreciated by all. This and the persistence of my elder son Pawandeep Sahni, encouraged me to start my blog on self-adhesive labels industry https://harveersahni.blogspot.com . When the blog crossed 10,000 pageviews I was so excited that I decided to share my knowledge with all, through my blog. The success of my blog and the articles I wrote for international magazines prompted me to create more content for which I felt there was a vacuum. My blog became famous and people were reading all over the world. It became the reference point for global interest in Indian label industry. The number of pageviews goes on increasing. As of today, 14th Nov.2024, it has 580,000 page views and the website www.labelsandpackaging.com complementing my blog has crossed 137,000 page views totaling over 700,000 page views. I believe it will not be long before together they cross a million pageviews. My blog covers besides history, technical articles, success stories of both domestic and international label printers, important industry events, the next generation, the women in labels, etc.

A few years back I decided that I should publish a book that the industry would like to keep for posterity and knowledge of next generations. I am happy to announce that the book “UNTOLD STORIES OF INDIAN LABEL INDUSTRY”  with over two decades of my efforts in chronicling the history of Indian label industry and authoring almost 250 articles on success stories, events and technical articles in the over 46 years that I have spent in the labels industry, have culminated in publishing my book, which has been launched on the first day of Labelexpo India, 14th of November 2024. The book chronicles the History of Indian labels industry from the very beginning and covers success stories and lives of many label printers. It also dwells on the most defining moments, the young czars of label industry and the women who lend glamour to our colourful Industry. It is the first of its kind of endeavor ever.

The book is an A4 size 320-page coffee table book priced at Rs.3750.00. It was available at the stand of Weldon Celloplast Ltd. E-8 Hall-10 in Labelexpo 2024.
