Schreiner Group presents first-ever supplier awards: FLEXcon is Schreiner Preferred Supplier and Supplier of the Year

For the first time in the company’s history, Schreiner Group has formally recognized a supplier. FLEXcon was selected for the “Schreiner Preferred Supplier” and “Supplier of the Year” awards for outstanding achievements in the criteria of Quality, Logistics, Technology and Costs. By awarding this accolade, Schreiner Group primarily aims to strengthen the long-term supplier relationship.

FLEXcon is the first, long-standing supplier of Schreiner Group to be awarded with “Preferred Supplier” and “Supplier of the Year” recognition. Like Schreiner Group, FLEXcon is a privately held and owner-managed business. Headquartered in Spencer, Massachusetts, USA, FLEXcon has met all the decisive criteria of being selected for the awards in an exemplary manner. Manfred Laschinger, Head of Purchasing at Schreiner Group, presented the “Preferred Supplier” award to Neil McDonough, President and CEO of FLEXcon, in Glenrothes, Scotland, on March 11, 2013. Norbert Kreitmeir, Purchasing Manager Production Material, presented the “Supplier of the Year” award to Dave Rosen, Executive Vice President International at FLEXcon. Manfred Laschinger is sure that by taking this step the long-standing cooperation marked by a spirit of partnership between FLEXcon and Schreiner can be extended even further. “We are delighted that FLEXcon reciprocates our recognition by treating us as a ‘Preferred Customer.’ The collaboration between both development departments and top management that will become even closer and interlinked to a greater extent in the future will lead to significant process improvements that reduce material costs and accelerate product development over the long term,” said Laschinger. Rosen affirms: “As a leader in defining and performing best practices, Schreiner challenges FLEXcon to meet high standards. This ultimately improves our level of service and product performance and charts the way the two of us will work together to accomplish projects.”

Growing manufacturing complexities, higher quality demands and extensive globalization make it necessary for medium-sized companies to not only work together with the right vendor but to also involve selected suppliers in their product development process and value chain at an early stage. Therefore, Schreiner Group launched its “Schreiner Preferred Supplier” program. The materials group and supplier strategy forms the basis of this new approach to collaboration. Within this framework, Schreiner Group compared its A-level suppliers from the strategically important “Substrates” materials group in the areas of Quality, Logistics, Technology and Costs. In addition, the assessment included supplier evaluations from recent years. Last but not least, the strategic fit was determined, in other words the way in which the supplier’s company culture harmonizes with Schreiner Group’s culture. Through the award Schreiner Group pursues the overall aim of continually improving its cost structure through close cooperation, early involvement, integration of know-how and a lean procurement strategy.

As part of the “Schreiner Preferred Supplier” concept, FLEXcon received another accolade, the “Supplier of the Year” award. This recognition strictly relates to the supplier evaluation of the previous year and is awarded on an annual basis.
