Sappi to Participate in the Packaging Inspiration Forum

At the PrintCity-sponsored event, Sappi Fine Paper Europe will focus on creating added value in the packaging supply chain and demonstrating complete packaging concepts in their best light

Taking a look at the bigger picture and bringing home new ideas: this is the goal for attendees at the Packaging Inspiration Forum on the 24th and 25th of April at the Renaissance Hotel Düsseldorf. The event will be addressing a German speaking audience only. It is presented by the member companies of the PrintCity Alliance, including Sappi, is designed to promote the exchange of information and knowledge among everyone involved in the packaging supply chain. Brand owners, designers, printers and converters will learn about the technologies, substrates and finishing solutions that are available today for the development and production of value-added packaging, and discover how those processes can be optimised through the entire value chain.

Sophisticated Finishing Equals Greater Shelf Appeal

From Sappi's perspective, one of the key issues the company is continually addressing through its research and development efforts is the ever-increasing demand on substrates, especially the bright white virgin fibres cartonboard grades for which Sappi is known in the market, and the high quality and versatile printing and finishing options that can be used with these versatile substrates. In addition to talks by well-known industry specialists, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a total of six interactive expert roundtables covering the subjects of portfolio pieces, form and design, digital printing, protection against brand piracy, packaging management and finishing. In the break-out session on finishing, which is actively supported by Sappi, Torsten Drews, Director of the Achilles Group and longtime Sappi user, will be moderating a discussion on the latest ideas on appropriate brand investment and current opportunities provided by today’s sophisticated finishing techniques for packaging.

Some of the questions Mr. Drews will be addressing include:

• What is the relationship between the impact of sophisticated finishing techniques and the cost for producing them?
• Which finishing process is most appropriate for which target group: are there "typically male finishes," and as a counterpart, a typically feminine finishing pattern?
• It is possible for a private person to launch her own perfume into the market without a huge marketing machine behind it, leveraging instead packaging developers and other members of the value chain?

Because Sappi’s high-quality packaging substrates support a variety of different print finishes, Sappi will contribute case studies from selected finishing companies that will not only provide inspiration for future ideas, but also explain the vast range of implementation options available to brand owners and converters. Case studies are intended to encourage participants to share their own experiences during this interactive session.

Value-Added Packaging

The Packaging Inspiration Forum provides the ideal opportunity to meet expert partners from across the industry, learn about new developments and share expertise relating to the rapidly developing area of Value-Added Packaging. The requirements and challenges for the packaging industry will be highlighted, and throughout the Forum, creative solutions will be demonstrated for producing packaging with added value. The primary objective is to ensure that attendees are aware of the many options and opportunities provided by advanced finishing techniques for market differentiation and positioning and to enhance shelf appeal. In addition, experts will be discussing the multi-sensory impact that value-added packaging can have. This includes a significant increase in consumer attention as well as increased brand awareness. These differentiating factors contribute to a growth in sales and market share. Everyone in the entire supply chain benefits when this potential is exploited.

PrintCity, the event host, is a recognised strategic alliance operating in the fields of printing, packaging and publishing via the 'connection of competence' across the entire value chain. PrintCity promotes and supports the value of print and packaging.
