Romprix wins label award at Pack Expo Romania
Husband and wife team Cristian and Octavia Dobrota celebrated picking up the ‘Label of the Year 2018’ trophy at the recent Pack Expo in Romania, and described winning as a just reward for the ongoing investment in people and technology at its plant in Pantelimon, near Bucharest.
From a relatively humble beginning in 2000 producing pricing labels on second hand flexo machines, Romprix has grown to become one of Romania’s leading label converters, with a staff of 200 and annual sales in excess of €16m. Today, it produces a wide variety of labels and tags, and low to medium volume packaging in full colour with latest Bobst flexo and HP digital technology.
Capable of handling a range of substrates, with specialised adhesives for any type of application on 10-micron foil to 350-micron carton board, Romprix offers added-value finishing for different applications including cold and hot foil, embossing, varnishing, laminating, screen printing, adhesive printing (glue killed), and peel/reseal labels, as well as double sided full colour printing, serial registration, numbering, engraving and laser cutting. Romprix can also produce multi-layer labels, shrink sleeves, in-mould labels and aluminium lids.
With such a diverse portfolio of products on offer, the company requires a support network that is responsive and reliable to ensure that its distribution warehouses are permanently stocked with finished products. An essential part of this equation is the working relationship that Romprix has developed with Rotometrics for the supply and ongoing servicing of the die tooling on its presses.
Cristian Dobrota explained: “We have known Graphic Open Systems, who are the Rotometrics distributor in Romania, for many years and value their professional advice and support. So, when GOS and Rotometrics launched their joint venture back in 2015 and opened a local die refurbishing facility in nearby Brasov, we knew we had valuable ‘on-demand’ back-up for any situation that might arise.”
With so many short run jobs to fulfil on semi-rotary presses, Dobrota says that dies represent a large proportion of the overall job cost, so a prompt and professional service is essential to maintain production efficiency if profit margins are not to be compromised. Speaking for Rotometrics, James Wellsbury commented: “Our Brasov facility provides on-the-spot support for all of south eastern Europe and has grown to a $500,000 business in three years – we are delighted that Romprix has been a major beneficiary, and proud of the personal service we offer through GOS.”
