Pragati Pack invests in third MPS press

Pragati Pack, a fully owned subsidiary of Pragati Offset based in Hyderabad, has invested in a third MPS press for printing pressure-sensitive labels, through the Dutch press manufacturer’s Indian agent Genius Flexo Machinery, which is expected to install the new 8-color MPS EB 370 in September 2015.

Pragati Pack, MPS and Genius Flexo Machinery signed the contract during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ceremony held in the presence of the Dutch government delegation on June 5 in New Delhi. While 20 other MoUs from different industries were signed the same evening, this was the only one signed from the printing industry during this high profile event.

While MPS has a total install base of 450 presses across the world, this will be the seventh MPS press in India and the 11th across the sub-continent. Genius Flexo Machinery has installed four presses in Bangladesh.

Pragati Pack bought its first MPS, an 8-color MPS EF 410, in 2006 when it started its flexo division. In 2012, the company invested in another 8-color MPS EC 330 with APC sleeve and an Omet Varyflex press.

Running the presses in two shifts of eight hours each, six days a week, Pragati prints an average of 110 jobs on its two existing MPS presses.

Hemanth Paruchuri, Pragati Pack director, said: ‘We were stretching lead time with the existing machinery so we opted for another press. Advantages of MPS technology include consistent waste independent of the substrate used, consistent dot gain on the press and short changeover time, which is very critical for profitability of a business.’

Pragati Pack has also invested in an HP Indigo WS6600 digital label printing press that is coupled with a Codimag unit for finishing and which Paruchuri aims to use to ‘do something unique’.

Further, Pragati Pack will complete construction of its third factory in Hyderabad within the next couple of months, and the 300,000 sq ft facility will house any new expansion as well as some existing divisions including the stocks and leaflet division.
