PPG receives ISEGA certification for TESLIN Food-Grade substrate
PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced that its TESLIN® Food-Grade substrate has received accreditation from German independent testing institute ISEGA. The certification confirms that the synthetic paper can be used safely for many European food labeling and packaging applications.
Jason Depner, PPG global segment manager, Teslin substrate products, said the ISEGA certification permits PPG customers to use Teslin Food-Grade substrate for applications requiring direct food contact with dry foods that have no free fats at the surface at room temperature and below, as defined by European Commission Directives 2006/141/EC and 2006/125/EChas received accreditation from independent testing institute ISEGA for both its.
“The ISEGA certification allows our European customers to develop labels and packaging that help improve supply chain efficiency and protect consumers against counterfeiting and tampering,” said Depner. “Teslin Food-Grade substrate enables our customers to develop new and innovative ways to package, label and protect food goods.”
Teslin Food-Grade substrate offers the same capabilities as standard Teslin substrate. It resists water, chemicals and scuffs; withstands exposure to ice and steam; and survives extreme hot and cold temperature fluctuations. These attributes enable labels and packaging to stand up to wear that occurs during storage, shipping and handling.
The product is compatible with multiple print technologies, including inkjet, laser, thermal transfer, flexography and offset. High-definition print quality and vibrant color reproduction also make Teslin Food-Grade substrate suitable for branded packaging.
Teslin Food-Grade substrate is fully compliant with the U.S. Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and all related food-additive regulations for food-contact applications. This permits PPG customers to use the material for single- and repeated-use applications, under all operating conditions for which the substrate is technologically suitable, with all types of food and without limits to material amount.
PPG will showcase Teslin Food-Grade substrate in booth #8A13 at Labelexpo Europe 2017, September 25-28 in Brussels.
The Teslin substrate products business is part of PPG’s Specialty Coatings and Materials business. Manufactured at PPG’s Barberton, Ohio plant, Teslin substrate is a high-performance microporous material. It is used in print and laminated materials, label and packaging, and radio frequency identification (RFID) applications, such as e-passports and secure credentials and labels.
