OMET Labelexpo Europe: the most enthusiastic show ever… finally
“A great trade show!”, so OMET staff unanimously judged this year’s label exhibition in Brussels. Quest for innovation, willingness to invest in capital equipment, desire to leave dark years behind, that is the mood of label printers flocked in Belgium for the biggest event in the industry.
Numbers show an increase in attendance with respect to the previous edition partially due to the enlargement of the fairgrounds (now occupying 7 halls) and partially due to what seems a renovated enthusiasm of the label sector after years of cautious waiting, despite it has always been one of the liveliest segment in the packaging market. In addition, the label business seems to appeal increasingly more those involved in areas close to packaging attracted by its advances and non-stop experiments.
The password this year for printing presses manufacturers was Quality, followed by Efficiency and Standardization. Achieve the best quality can’t do without the greatest produced efficacy in terms of general savings. Standardization comes forward with respect to print consistency and ease of process management.
OMET answered the call by offering for the first time in a show a multi-process press combining flexo and offset with sleeves. The XFlex X6 shown at Labelexpo mixed 4 flexo groups and 5 offset units with sleeves, the latest innovation of the Italian machine manufacturer. Printing a beautiful production label courtesy of Campari and a flexible packaging on PP+PE films of Ferrero snacks, the machine performed exceptionally during the four days and arose the interest of major printers worldwide, some of whose secured an order already during the show. Customers showed special interest in presses with complex configurations proving their greater possibility in capital equipment expenditure.
The offset unit of OMET integrating sleeves was the “missing piece” in OMET’s jigsaw of mixed technologies offered to printers needing “to go offset” to meet standardization requirements of brand owners or looking for simple and low-cost pre-press for big volumes production. So states Marco Calcagni, sales and marketing director of OMET: “With this recent innovation, OMET strongly affirms its leading position in the label industry bestowing prestige to its engineering capabilities which, in turn, give uniqueness and value to the customers who choose to avail of OMET high-end machines.”

OMET management is proud to inform that a remarkable number of orders were signed during the show, both for hybrid flexo+offset presses – XFlex X6 offset and Varyflex V2 with offset groups – or full flexo label machines like the XFlex X4 displayed in Brussels that is the best solution for companies with low purchasing budgets but still looking for maximum flexibility and ease of operation.
Back in Lecco, the whole OMET’s staff is busy with follow-up of recent leads (30 to 40% increase with respect to 2011 depending on the geographical areas) and requests of quotation, and the order income originated by the fair. No way the year of the 50th Anniversary could have a better end on the international stage. The year of the Anniversary which had officially started with the participation to Converflex and the three days event for VIP customers on Como lake will now come to conclusion with a series of internal events dedicated to OMET’s collaborators. The magic of the 50th celebration is still in the air and the energy vibrating in OMET’s booth at Labelexpo was a clear sign that the innovation track of OMET and its ascent to the leadership in the industry is far from being over.
