New adhesive material for thermal labels: Jack-of-all-trades

• HERMAtherm PP white 65 combines the properties of thermal paper with the durability of PP film.
• Multi-layer adhesive 62Gpt maintains a secure bond even in difficult conditions.
• Adhesive material therefore offers exceptional scope – including in hostile or damp/cool environments.

Direct thermal printing is often the preferred method of printing labels with variable information at an affordable cost. HERMA is now marketing an adhesive material that brings together the properties of thermal paper with the durability of PP film. Better still, the HERMAtherm PP white 65 grade is compatible with an exceptionally broad range of applications thanks to its multi-layer adhesive 62Gpt. These encompass a host of critical uses in hostile or damp/cool environments, including logistics labels, luggage tags, and fruit, meat and cheese labels. In such cases, the labels are often required to offer fast and strong tack. For label printers, one benefit of this HERMA innovation is that they can now use one and the same adhesive material for very diverse applications. Stock keeping, logistics and the procedures and quality management tasks associated with processing are made much simpler as a consequence.

Good resistance to water and oil
HERMAtherm PP white 65 is ideal for single or multi-colour pre-printing with conventional techniques, such as UV flexo and UV offset. When overprinting the variable information, speeds of up to 200 mm/s are possible with direct thermal printing. In keeping with the versatile adhesive, HERMAtherm PP white 65 offers outstanding water and oil resistance, compared with other thermal stock. The film is also free from bisphenol A (BPA) and safe, from both a physiological and a toxicological perspective. It can therefore be used in printers and scales, for example, for food labelling purposes as well. The film is even suitable for direct contact with food that is usually washed and/or peeled prior to being consumed.
