Lecta receives Platinum Medal in EcoVadis Sustainability Rating
Lecta is proud to announce that it has been recognized by EcoVadis with the Platinum Medal in its second year assessed and rated at Group level. This shows Lecta’s firm commitment to sustainability and its significant progress and achievements made aligned with its ambitious ESG strategy.
EcoVadis is the world's most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, and its scores are based on a rigorous methodology that evaluates companies’ sustainability performance in four areas: Environment, Ethics, Labor and Human Rights, and Sustainable Procurement. With a score of 85/100 Lecta is placed among the top 1% of over more than 130,000 companies currently assessed by EcoVadis and among the 10 best companies out of the more than 300 rated in the Pulp, Paper and Paperboard industry.
“After having missed the Gold level by a few points in 2023 and following EcoVadis guidance for our improvement, we have been working very hard to fill the gap this year in all ESG areas. Being recognized at the Platinum level is really a great success achieved thanks to all committed stakeholders directly involved but also to each of our employees who are contributing daily in every activity we are doing at Lecta”, said Vincent George, Chief Transformation & Sustainability Officer at Lecta.
This high recognition from EcoVadis also underlines the value of Lecta's solid and consolidated Integrated Management System, which is the foundation of our organization, and which is strictly applied in all activities and at all Lecta sites. The principles of this Lecta policy promote the production and distribution of paper with a commitment to quality and service to meet customer expectations considering criteria of profitability, social responsibility, environmental protection, energy efficiency and occupational health and safety.
Regarding environmental aspects, we have maintained our high level of excellence achieved in previous EcoVadis assessments and have even improved in key sustainability areas such as the reduction of GHG emissions, the use of renewable energy and the disposal of waste in landfills.
Lecta's score obtained in the areas of Ethics, Labor and Human Rights has improved considerably. This is because we have reported in detail on everything that Lecta has been doing for some time on these issues, as well as on new developments in these relevant categories such as the reinforcement of existing policies, the issuance of a new cybersecurity policy and the training of all our employees in the Lecta Code of Ethics, and all employees in relation to interested third parties also in anti-corruption policy.
Finally, it is also worth highlighting that in Sustainable Purchasing we are making progress in consolidating a more sustainable and responsible Supply Chain. Firstly, we have issued a specific Supplier Code of Conduct to ensure that our suppliers are aligned with our ethical principles in our business relationships. Secondly, we have already reapproved 90% of our suppliers on our digital purchasing platform in relation to various business and sustainable criteria that are important to us in terms of ESG performance.
In addition, we have launched a massive campaign in partnership with EcoVadis to promote its rating methodology among our suppliers as an indicator of trust.
The EcoVadis Platinum Medal confirms that at Lecta we are on the right path in our commitment to help to create a more sustainable world. We are very grateful for this recognition, and we also extend our gratitude to all the Lecta employees, customers, suppliers and any other business partners who join us on this journey.
