Labelexpo Europe 2015 – Gallus presents explosion of innovations
Gallus once again offered an impressive demonstration of its ability to innovate with two upgraded printing press systems – the Gallus RCS 430 and Gallus ECS 340 – as well as the market launch of the Gallus DCS 340 digital label printing system. The company’s successful appearance at the Labelexpo trade fair in Brussels was topped off by a new generation of its Screeny screen printing plates and new printing accessories from Gallus Original Parts & Consumables.
With a new brand image, the long-established Swiss company exhibited over an area of more than 1,200 square metres and presented over 40 live demonstrations to visitor numbers in excess of 9,500 people over the four days of the trade fair. “We’re enjoying renewed vitality thanks to the relaunch of the Gallus brand and the many innovations in our portfolio,” says Gallus head of sales Christof Naier. “Our customers and the market can sense the excitement that is not only emanating from the brand and our team, but also features in new products and services.”
The highlight and number one topic of conversation at this specialist trade fair was the market launch of the Gallus DCS 340, the first industrial digital label printing system completely geared to the requirements of industrial label printing. During the extremely popular live demonstrations, visitors to the Gallus stand were able to see labels printed live in spectacular levels of quality previously unattainable in inkjet printing. “We deliver quality that matches that of offset printing,” says Michael Ring, head of digital printing sales at Gallus. “We achieve a visual resolution of 2400 x 2400 dpi thanks to a physical resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi with a droplet size of just 2 pl. Very small fonts and fine lines are printed precisely and with sharp edges, and vignettes down to 0% can be printed without tonal value jumps,” explains Jonny Dörig, product manager for the Gallus DCS 340. “The eight-colour printing system (white, YMCK, GOV) extends the colour gamut beyond the pure CMYK scale without having to switch to additional Pantone and spot colours.” In addition, the system’s finishing capabilities were showcased in an impressive live printing demonstration of a chewing gum label. Visitors were able to see the label – which was embellished with two different cold foils, one overprinted and one downstream from the digital printing unit (DPU) – produced all the way from the PDF to the finished die-cut product in a single pass on the Gallus DCS 340. The highlight of this demonstration was the ability to rapidly change the spot colour according to visitor requests thanks to the integrated digital front end (Prinect) which, like the digital printing unit (DPU), comes from the development stable of Gallus parent company Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
In the area of conventional label printing, Gallus presented the completely upgraded Gallus RCS 430, the flagship of the label industry. This press features optimised offset printing units that offer improved ink/water balance and a new control unit, enabling Gallus to ensure customers benefit from a 10% increase in cost efficiency compared to the previous version.
The Gallus ECS 340 is the world’s most-purchased label printing press in its class. More than 300 units sold show the enormous amount of trust that customers place in this press system. Improved flexographic printing units enable label printers to achieve further increases in efficiency.
In terms of printing accessories, Gallus now offers a new self-adhesive Twinlock cylinder that greatly simplifies assembly of flexographic printing plates and also saves on costs. Not only that, the Gallus portfolio also features three new types of doctor blades.
The screen printing division presented a new generation of printing plates, the Gallus Screeny A-Line. These screen printing plates offer impressive accuracy, robustness and a long service life, and deliver first-class print results and the very best image resolution.
“We’ve every right to be satisfied with the results of this trade fair,” says Klaus Bachstein, CEO of the Gallus Group. “With over 9,500 visitors to the stand, over 50% more machines sold than at the last Labelexpo and the number of pre-reservations for the new Gallus DCS 340 digital press system running into double digits, this year’s Labelexpo was a complete success for Gallus.”
