ICAP SIRA Chemicals and Polymers SpA announces the Environmental Certification of the Barberino di Mugello Polymerization Plant
In April 2014, ICAP-SIRA’s Barberino di Mugello plant (near Florence, Italy) obtained the UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Certification, first step towards the Environmental Certification of the whole Company. This achievement is in line with the Company’s Strategic Plan, which foresees the alignment of the whole product portfolio to the “mega trends” of the chemical sectors in which the Company operates, i.e. the improvement of existing and development of new products without toxic substances, low VOC, and eco-compatible, produced with full respect of safety and environment.
The plant at Barberino di Mugello specializes in manufacturing water–based polymer dispersions, solvent-based polymer solutions and compounds. The facility is one of the most modern in Europe, equipped with a highly automated system and the most stringent safety standards. The plant’s energy demands are met by a standalone 830kWe cogeneration unit, which also provides hot water and steam. In addition, state-of-the-art water and exhaust treatment systems guarantee full environmental compliance in a nice area not far from the historical city of Florence.
