HP unveils a slew of new digital print capabilities for its Indigo presses

HP announced the launch of a new silver ink, which it claims will for the first time allow converters and printing service providers to use silver ink on digital print digital print possibilities.

According to A Appadurai, country manager at HP, HP is offering current technologies – the Indigo WS6600 in the WS series being one of them. There are currently 15 HP webset machines, two of which are the WS6600 and the rest are WS4600. “On the 6600, we have launched the new silver ink,” he said. “It is a breakthrough technology for us,” he added.

One of the markets that HP is doing well today is in the pharma market. “One of our customers in the pharma segment is printing close to a 1.5-million impressions every month, and that too with the 4600 press. And with the 6600, we are targeting the pharma segment while providing enhance print capabilities.”

At the show, HP announced the installation of its 500th installation of the WS6600 series digital press at RakoEtiketten’s plant in China. Besides, the installation in China, has eight more Indigo WS6600 presses at its facility in Germany. Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager of Indigo division at HP, said, the new machine will enable Rako to increase efficiency and productivity as “it extends the benefits of digital label printing to a wider market.”

Bar-Shany continued, “Today’s brand demand high-impact packaging and fast turnaround times, and they are requesting HP Indigo technology to meet their needs. Our unprecedented growth in the labels market reflects our commitment to help our customers stay on the cutting edge by continually introducing new solutions that will help converters continue to differentiate themselves.”

Running alongside the WS6600 were the two Drupa debutants – HP Indigo 20000 and 30000 with expanded digital printing capabilities. “What does a print service provider or convertor need? More throughput, more jobs, colours,” stated Bar-Shany. HP demonstrated for the first time worldwide at Labelexpo, a new solution for HP Indigo 20000 and 30000 digital presses – the HP SmartScreen labels and packaging workflow Suite, Version 4, powered by Esko. “With the SmartScreen workflow, we are offering a digital frontend, which will allow our customers to do 20% more jobs and 70% savings on time, besides improving colour results,” said Bar-Shany. The presses, however, will be commercially available by the first half of 2014.

HP has also teamed up with AB Graphics and Tresu for providing complete finishing solutions to its 20000 and 30000. While AB Graphic’s Digicon 3000 is designed specifically to support the HP Indigo 20000 digital press for offline converting solutions like slitting, laminating, foiling and UV coating/adhesives, the TresuiCoat on the 3000 will enable both UV and aqueous post-print selective coating. Also on display is Kama stripping and blanking unit that contains programmable rollers to strip waste and blank printed boxes.
