Herma: Certified for Xeikon
HERMA self-adhesive material:
Certified for Xeikon
· Range of HERMA self-adhesive materials approved for Xeikon 3000 Series presses
· Several paper and film grades for conventional applications and demanding environments
The irresistible rise in popularity started with wine labels, and then the pharmaceutical and food industries discovered their benefits. They have long since become indispensable in the retail segment and several other sectors as well. In view of their cost advantages for small jobs, digitally printed labels on rolls are being used for more and more applications. For this reason, HERMA has obtained approval for a selected range of self-adhesive materials, verifying their suitability for toner-based digital printing with the Xeikon 3000 Series digital label presses.
FDA compliant Xeikon QA-I toner
The HERMA materials run smoothly with the latest generation Xeikon QA-Industrial (QA-I) dry toner based technology. It's specifically developed for the labelling and packaging market and delivers significant benefits in terms of image quality, light fastness, food safety and ecology. The QA-I toner's increased light fastness - score of Y6-7 – C7-8 – M6-7 – K8 on the blue wool scale - ensures labels don’t fade and remain in perfect condition for their whole shelf life. By optimizing the color pigments, the QA-I toner meets all the applicable FDA guidelines for indirect food contact under room temperature and less severe conditions as well as direct food contact for dry food substances containing no surface oil or fat under the same conditions. Says Hans Verberckmoes, Print Media & Technology Centre Manager from Xeikon,“Both the paper and film substrates performed really well on all 4 of the Xeikon 3000 series presses. The tests confirm HERMA as a Xeikon AURA partner, refering to the fully-encompassing partner-network that brings together information on all Xeikon partners and their integrated solutions in one central location as a professional networking source. Together with selected partners like HERMA, Xeikon facilitates the print media choice by the customer by identifying what will suit his/her requirement and by providing accurate information based on profound testing of the various substrates.”
Outstanding print quality
The HERMA range encompasses four white papers, comprising machine finished (HERMAwhite, grade 601), semi-gloss coated on one side (HERMAextracoat, grade 242), glossy coated on one side (HERMAgloss, grade 245) and high gloss cast-coated on one side (HERMAlux, grade 261). Thanks to their very good to outstanding printability, they are the ideal choice for first-class labels. These paper grades are complimented by two white film-based self-adhesive materials. HERMA PP white extra tc (grade 880) is a glossy opaque polypropylene film. It produces superior labels with a strong visual appeal that endures even in hostile weather conditions and when exposed to chemicals. For cool and damp labelling environments and if high temperatures up to 150 degrees Celsius are to be encountered after dispensing – in case of some type plates for example – HERMA PETP white matt (grade 996) is the perfect choice. The adhesive 63B that is used with this material offers very good adhesion, even on critical surfaces, and seawater resistance.
Maximum reliability
This range, selected for digital printing with the Xeikon 3000 Series digital label presses, covers numerous regular applications. "Xeikon is widely acknowledged as a driver of innovation in the toner-based digital printing segment, especially in view of its ability to process standard adhesive materials without any special pre-treatment," comments HERMA managing director Dr. Thomas Baumgärtner. "We can now offer supremely reliable solutions that are officially approved, as it were, to the growing band of Xeikon users – backed by the product and service quality standards for which HERMA has long since established a strong reputation in the conventional printing community."
