Former FINAT Board and Committee Member Jaume Puigbò passes away

FINAT is saddened to receive the news about the passing away of its former Board and Committee member Jaume Puigbò of Sinel Systems (now part of Autajon) in Barcelona. Sinel’s predecessor Caposa was one of the first FINAT members from Spain. Jaume first joined FINAT events in the late 1970s and later on became an active member, serving on multiple committees (Converter Committee, Barcode Committee, Technical Committee and Marketing Committee) before joining the FINAT Board in the 1990s and once again in the 2000s. Jaume was also a co-founder of the Spanish label association ANFEC (now called AIFEC), as well as the Concordia alliance. His mantra for association engagement was that ‘the more you put into the association, the more you get out’.

Representing a company that was one of the pioneers in automatic identification systems and the implementation of barcode systems across the supply chain, Jaume played an active role as developer and promotor of the EPSMA Barcode, one of the first implementations of the EAN 128 code used in logistics. Sister company CYG (now part of UPM Raflatac) was the first to embrace the barcode on its rolls and pallets. Jaume was ahead of his time when raising issues related to digitalisation, data interoperability, and Y2K even before these terms were widely understood in the industry.

FINAT is thankful for what Jaume Puigbò did for the association and its community. Several members still carry fond memories of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 to which he and his wife Maria-Dolores (member of the organising committee) invited their FINAT friends. We wish Maria-Dolores and the family all the strength to cope with this sad loss.

Read here the article that Jaume wrote for the ‘United in Labels’, the anniversary book that was released on the occasion of FINAT’s 50th anniversary in 2008.
