Flint Group invests in sophisticated Nilpeter offset/flexo combination press for their Trelleborg Technical Center

The demand for innovation has been omnipresent in the narrow-web label and labelling industry for decades – and this trend is as strong today as it was ten years ago. The need for optimum print quality, production efficiency, value-added labels, and sustainability remains the driver of the entire value chain - hardware, software, and chemistry.

Flint Group, with its narrow-web Technical Center in Trelleborg, Sweden, has always been in the forefront of innovation, using in-house printing equipment to develop the inks of tomorrow. Flint Group can pride themselves of having a strong, Scandinavian environmental focus. The current Nilpeter equipment in Flint’s existing facilities has been in service for a very long time, so Flint has now decided that it is time to invest heavily in the next generation laboratory - including new, state-of-the-art printing machinery.

The global ink manufacturer has once again made a cooperation agreement with Nilpeter, at the recent LabelExpo in Brussels in order to update the existing letterpress equipment, as well as supplying a new fourth generation MO-4 offset combined with FA-4 flexo printing heads for water born and UV-based flexo inks. The platform technology enables inline screen printing as well as cold foil and UV-lamination – as well as inline converting.

The configuration includes two MO-4 offset platforms, three FA-flexo units – facilitating Nilpeter CLEANINKING closed doctor chambers as well as open ink pans. It combines hot air and UV-systems for conventional UV-curing and inert gas for the testing of modern, environmental sustainable inks for the future.

Guillaume Clement, Global Business Director Narrow Web, says, “Flint group has a strong commitment to continue to invest in its Narrow Web segment – today and into the future. This new press is another step to further develop this growing and key market segment for us.”

Global Product Director Narrow Web, Jennifer Joyce continues: “By investing in an advanced narrow-web press, capable of running all the latest technologies, Flint Group is creating a print center with outstanding technical capabilities that will energise the innovation process of inks for the future, Flint Group will continue to use the latest and most advanced technologies to further Narrow Web market growth; both in product development and in our technical centres. This investment is in line with our innovation strategy – further positioning Flint Group Narrow Web as a leader in innovation. As our customers are at the centre of all we do, we strive to co-develop products and services with them.”

There has been a strong technical partnership between Nilpeter and Flint Group for many years. This collaboration has brought lots of new innovations to the market – both in terms of ink technology from Flint Group and new printing equipment from Nilpeter.

“We are very proud that Flint Group is making this significant investment in the Narrow Web business segment,” says Narrow Web Global Brand Manager, Niklas Olsson. He continues, “We know the value of a printing press, which can be fully allocated for R&D and testing; we have enjoyed the benefits of our own press for the last 20 years. This now continues into the next generation; with a state-of-the-art printing press, we can simulate real life situations that our clients are facing, and thus correct and fine tune ink formulations for ultimate press performance.”

Jakob Landberg, Nilpeter’s Sales and Marketing Director sums up, “Our industry is driven by innovation and partnership – two elements that has been essential to both companies with focus on quality and sustainability in the narrow-web sector. Now we are ready to take this even further for the benefit of future labelling as well as packaging.”
