Film-based marking solutions and functional assembly components
Small space—smart labels: Process optimization for OEMs
Like in other industrial sectors, miniaturization is a hot topic in the automotive industry. Automotive suppliers are challenged to master the balancing act between increasingly smaller assembly spaces and rising performance requirements. The film-based marking solutions and functional assembly components from Schreiner ProTech assist them in reducing weight while making efficient use of specified dimensions. The self-adhesive products are suitable for fully automatic application, which, as an added benefit, makes it easier to integrate them into the manufacturing process.
Protection for airbags
Airbag covers made of a specialty film reliably protect airbags from external influences while requiring only minimal assembly space. Based on a large number of tested materials, module-related, complex part geometries can be achieved. Special tear-proof materials are available even for extremely high dynamic loads. When the airbag is deployed, the material tears in a predefined way strictly along the perforations. The airbag covers can be equipped with multi-lingual warning messages and barcodes to query the series part number. The requirements for further processing are fed into product development at an early stage. Cuttings, for instance, may be integrated to facilitate subsequent assembly.
For reliable insulation of the gas generators of airbags, Schreiner ProTech produces precision die-cut parts of aluminum or copper foils with a thickness of 50 µm to 250 µm. The highly resistant specialty adhesives ensure that the insulation retains its functionality across the entire lifecycle, delivering absolutely tight protection of the gas generator from dust and moisture. The material used is insensitive to temperatures of up to 85 degrees centigrade, resistant against chemicals and pressure-tight.
Marking with additional functionality for assembly components
Preprinted PreScript labels serve as high-grade warning labels and nameplates which can be customized in terms of shape and design. Their high mechanical resistance makes them particularly durable. Additionally, the PolyScript label version makes it possible for manufacturers to add variable data during the production process. Furthermore, the labels can be equipped with numerous additional functions such as barcodes, RFID or counterfeit protection features.
The nameplates may additionally be combined with pressure compensation seals (PCS). One-step processing of the venting system and marking saves process times and cuts process costs by up to 40 percent. Material consumption and capital expenditures for production equipment are reduced. Due to its low height the functional assembly component allows flexible and space-saving installation in a fully automated assembly process.
PCS for tire pressure monitoring system
The pressure compensation seals from Schreiner ProTech also ensure regular exchange of air in tire inflation pressure sensors while preventing dirt, dust and water from damaging the electronics. The materials used withstand the same tough testing conditions to which the tire valves are subjected.
Reduction of label variety
With the laser film from Schreiner ProTech labels are cut to size and laser-marked directly on the line. This provides the manufacturer with maximum flexibility while the number of label versions is reduced. The touchless laser marking process occurs inside the material composite underneath a transparent protective laminate. In addition, the Color Laser film is suitable for creating a label kit which, for instance, is used to produce labels for the fuel filler, engine compartment, nameplate and VIN. The utilization of this standard system reduces the potential for errors and lowers inventory costs by decreasing the variety of required labels.
Self-adhesive bonding solutions for extremely small spaces
To join assembly components within narrow tolerances, mini-bonding die-cut parts sized 4 x 4 mm are used. They allow even extremely small components to be accurately mounted. The precision die-cut parts are particularly suitable for applications involving combinations with other functions such as height, pressure and temperature compensation, protection or insulation. The achievable accuracy has a tolerance range of +/- 0.15 mm.
RFID labels for harsh conditions
While conventional RFID labels applied directly to metal deliver poor reading results, the ((rfid))-DistaFerr SL label achieves a long range of four meters even on metallic substrates. The flexible and thin construction allows this label to be used on metal components and containers. Direct on-site printing and programming ensures usability as needed.
The ((rfid))-HighTemp label is available specifically for high-temperature applications. The memory continues to be functional after 30-minute exposure 220 °C. This RFID label thus withstands painting or cleaning processes unharmed. The label can either be glued to the substrate or attached with fastening devices.
