Bluestar Silicones launches new SILCOLEASE® UV range products

As well as the latest additions in the SILCOLEASE® Optima thermal solventless technology Bluestar will also showcase its full and growing UV curing range which allow silicone curing without any heat stress of the substrate.  With new products in both Cationic and Free Radical series the SILCOLEASE® range can rise to the challenges posed by the ever growing application fields of filmic liners, liner less labels and narrow web coaters.

The SILCOLEASE® UV 200 series is based on epoxy functionalised silicone polymers with a cationic curing mechanism.  The major advantage of these products is their excellent cure response to UV C radiation due to the incorporation of patented Iodonium Borate photoinitiator technology. This photoinitiator can be supplied as a catalyst to add to a base polymer but a unique feature of SILCOLEASE® UV 200 series is the possibility to supply a mono-component system, ready to use, without further bath formulation.

The SILCOLEASE® UV 100 free radical curing series based on acrylate functional chemistry is used particularly where substrate inhibition of other reactive systems is seen.  This feature is particularly useful in “liner less” applications where silicone is frequently required to cure on printed surfaces.

When asked about the specific benefits offered by the SILCOLEASE® UV range Global Market Manager Sean Duffy said “With changing cost structures of Pt containing systems and development in substrate, machine and adhesive technologies UV systems are more than ever a real alternative to traditional thermal cure systems for an ever growing number of label applications.”

With more than 30 years of experience as a global supplier and innovator in silicone paper & film release coating solutions, Bluestar Silicones offers expertise, knowledge and innovation in the silicone market, unmatched in the industry.
