Achertäler Druckerei wins German Packaging Award with self-developed new product
Almost 250 companies, institutions and individuals from Germany and abroad submitted their innovations and best solutions to Europe's largest independent packaging showcase. The “German Packaging Award”, organized by the German Packaging Institute (dvi), is awarded by an independent jury of experts across all materials and sectors in 10 categories.
“We received a record-breaking number of packaging-related innovations. The 27 independent members of our jury personally reviewed and evaluated each submission in mid-July,” says Oliver Berndt, the division manager responsible for the competition at the dvi.
The Achertäler Druckerei had submitted a recently developed and in-house graphically designed “crease-resistant wrapping silk paper with high-quality printing and finishing of premium products” and was able to win the competition in the “Design” category with this innovation. In its assessment, the jury was of the opinion that “the development and use of crease-resistant hot foil stamping on thin silk paper, which was finished with high-quality printing using offset/flexo and screen printing processes, enables impressive premiumization. These techniques were previously unachievable and set new standards for the 'unpacking experience' and secondary packaging. The luxurious packaging effectively conveys the brand message and reinforces the exclusive image of high-quality luxury goods. Thanks to the quality of the materials and the elegant design, the packaging itself becomes part of the luxurious experience. The combination of these elements makes the packaging a well-deserved award winner.”
Frank Neumann, Managing Director of the company, explained shortly after the results were announced on July 23, 2024: “After winning the main prize ‘Best in Show’ and two other categories at the FINAT Label Award at the end of May, to now also win the German Packaging Award in the ‘Design’ category is incredible for us! It shows that both in our self-adhesive label business area and in packaging and commercial printing, we are pursuing new ideas and paths with innovations and the highest quality that help our customers to market their products with absolute quality. And it shows that, as a family-run, medium-sized print shop, we can set standards with our innovative strength in the printing and packaging industry, which is dominated by large companies.”
Production Director Manuel Maurer is delighted to add: “This development of high-quality printed silk paper finished with hot foil stamping is something completely new and has never been available in this form before. Premium brands can use it to further enhance their customers' shopping and unpacking experience. In terms of printing and embossing technology, this is very demanding and took a lot of time to develop in-house. But the result is really impressive. The fact that we have now won the German Packaging Award in the Design category shows us that we are on the right track with our idea.”
End of September, the winners of the German Packaging Award 2024 will be honored at an award ceremony at the Fachpack trade fair in Nuremberg.
