2011, a year out of the ordinary for OMET in many ways

In terms of sales, 2011 was a record year for OMET. Turnover reached the highest peak ever while significant improvements and important investments were made to make the company even more aggressive on the world marketplace. Despite the economy recession…

The total revenues in 2011 reached 48 million Euros over a total of 63 machines sold in the sole OMET Machines Division. The remaining companies of the OMET Group, O-PAC Wipes and OMET Systems in Motion performed as well taking the overall Group turnover to more than 67 M€.

OMET announces the enlargement of its premises in Lecco with the addition of  3,000 square meters to the company covered area, mainly in O-PAC, which is moving to a new building. The Ball Bearings division completed the transition to Systems in Motion, the new strategic direction responsible for 2011 exceptional business results. They, too, prepare to move to a larger building to house newly hired people and more production lines.

OMET Machines completed the job of becoming a true global company with 28 representative agencies and resellers in 40 countries in the world and four main business locations: OMET Headquarters in Lecco, Italy, OMET IBERICA in Barcelona – responsible for Latin America –, OMET CHINA based in Suzhou and the newly founded OMET AMERICAS Inc., based in Michigan, US. This truly global presence involves key benefits in pre-sales: understanding of local problems and needs, networking at international level, participation in local events.

There are further remarkable achievements: a 24/24, 7/7 Call Center available to reply to customers’ call; a powerful service network offering state-of-the-art support with the most advanced system like remote assistance and webcam live troubleshooting and a well-stocked warehouse for parts and accessories, delivering parts within 24 hours.
“We felt it was time to stabilize and possibly enhance our presence in the global market. In fact, since some time we had been preparing to expand internationally and widen our sales and service network”, informs Marco Calcagni, Sales Director of OMET Machines Division. “But we have done more. We have also massively re-engineered our internal organization reordering spaces, competences, empowering our strategic sectors (Sales, Marketing, R&D, Service) and introduced “lean” management principles in the Operations area and in the company guidance.”

The Technology Center, which is located nearby the production halls where presses and tissue converting machines “exhale their first breath”, is being renovated just now. It is doubly strategic, for company testing and R&D studies and because it represents the threshold of the company, the point where customers come in and get familiar with OMET when invited to demos or open doors events.

With regards to product innovation, OMET recently showed in Brussels its firepower: two new presses (XFlex X2 and XFlex X4), a new Offset Sleeve Unit, a wider choice of widths for traditional Cassette Offset printing on Varyflex V2, a breakthrough waste removal unit, the release 2.0 of Vision Register Control system and a wide choice of laminating processes available on the Rotogravure unit and performable in one pass. Research and development is busy these days finalizing the products, which will soon consecrate OMET in the digital arena and preparing for Drupa 2012.

“OMET Group is sound, dynamic and willing to grow more”, continues Mr. Calcagni. “We thought the company people in the Machine Division, after O-PAC and Systems in Motion, deserved a new image to identify with. This original concept design, which reflects our new way of approach to the printing market as a whole is being now declined to every piece of communication. The aim is to refresh the Company style and build our branding policy for the future. This operation was dear to Angelo Bartesaghi and we will continue it, bearing in mind his ideas and Vision.”
