FINAT briefing webinar: Design for Recycling: impact of labels in recycling of plastic containers
Recyclability of plastic containers is a key aspect of sustainability and the enabling of a circular economy. Labels play an important role in determining the recyclability of the plastic containers they are on, which has been recently been taken up on the Designed for Recyclability guidelines prepared by recycling sectors.
Noel Mitchell will review the current recommendations for recylability of plastic containers prepared by Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) and the European PET Bottle Platform (EPBP). These guidelines are considered the starting point for the harmonization of EPR (Extender Producer Responsibility) fee schemes in a recently published study by Eunomia, which will result in guidance from the European Commission in the near future.
We will also have a panel of representatives from major labelstock manufacturers to address how they approach this issue in their product offering, the trends in plastics recycling and the challenges for self-adhesive labels and sleeves with regards to recycling of plastic containers. The panel will consist of:
- Oona Koski, Sustainability Manager, UPM Raflatac
- Luciano Novità , Group Technical Director, Arconvert-Ritrama
- Jan 't Hart, Director Innovation Sustainability and Compliance, Avery Dennison
- Hendrik Kehl, Product Manager Self-adhesive Material, Herma
